The University of Southern Mississippi hired McCarty Architects, in association with Hanbury, to design the new Century Park South, a state-of-the-art residence hall for 950 students. This complex completes the second phase of the University’s housing master plan.
The new hall provides housing for freshmen and Luckyday Foundation scholarship students in mostly double rooms and some single rooms, all with private baths. Other amenities include large social areas, lounges, meeting spaces, mini-kitchens, study rooms and laundry areas. Also included are offices for the Luckyday Foundation and a student health center. A multi-purpose room connects two of the three buildings at the second floor level.
The project is LEED Gold-certified and includes energy-management systems with sensors to monitor temperature and humidity in different zones. Oxygen level monitors ensure fresh air is circulated. Personal thermostat controls are included in each residential room.
